Getting out of debt

You may find yourself in debt for a variety of reasons. Debt can accrue so slowly that you may not even notice it. On the other hand, the situation may also deteriorate abruptly.

In many cases, over-indebtedness is not solely attributable to the person’s own activities. For example, changes in the life situation, such as unemployment, bankruptcy, divorce or illness, will inevitably affect the person’s income and expenses.

The shame connected to financial issues

Financial difficulties are common and can affect anyone, regardless of income, occupation or age.

Financial issues are often associated with feelings of shame. Feelings of shame can make it difficult to talk about money matters or mean that it takes a long time to build up the courage to ask for help. Shame can also result in little or no interest in dealing with one’s own affairs.

It is important to remember that financial challenges do not diminish human dignity or make anyone less human.

Talking about money comes naturally to the staff of the financial and debt counselling service, as we talk about money every day and are used to dealing with a wide range of situations.  People of all ages, professions and social classes use financial and debt counselling services.  Our aim is to find out what your situation is and find solutions so that you can move on with your life.
